Job Description:
Position Summary Pew Research Center’s Religion department seeks
to promote a deeper understanding of issues at the intersection of
religion and public affairs. We are seekin g temporary Content
Analysis/Research Data Coder s to support a time-limited research
project focused on global religion and public life. Th ese
temporary full-time positions will run for a 12 - week period
beginning J une 16 , 20 26 (with the possibility of a 4-week
extension). Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be able
to commit to 37.5 hours per week during regular business hours.
Positions are paid at a rate of $1 8.50 per hour. In this role,
Content Analysis/Research Data Coders will research and code
information on efforts to reduce religious hostilities around the
world . The work supports Pew Research Center’s effort s to measure
government restri ctions on religion, as well as religious
hostilities and violence worldwide. Coders will apply content
analysis research methods and review major international sources,
including the U.S. State Department’s annual International
Religious Freedom reports , country constitutions, government
websites and news reports. Primary Responsibilities Working under
direction , Coders will have the following duties: Coding & Data
Entry Pew Research Center ’s c odebook to comb through lengthy
reports from various sources and code information following Pe w
Research Ce n ter's meth o dology . Discuss research findings and p
rovide input on shaping the coding guidelines and process . Enter
codes and supporting evidence into a database as countries are
coded . Compare current coding with partner to spot discrepancies
and reconcile differences appropriately in consultation with
researchers . Education/ Knowledge/Skills /Abilities Recent
graduate or current student (must have completed at least 2 years
of college ) with an i nterest in religion, world affairs, and/ or
other topics relevant to the study of government restrictions on
religion and social hostilities involving religion . P revious
coding (content analysis) experience, qualitative research
experience, or work in similar research projects is an advantage,
but not . Basic familiarity with Excel is . Detail oriented with
exacting standards to maintain accuracy and impartiality in all
work products. Ability to work well in a team setting . Ability to
take instructions and follow through well . Ability to work
diligently under deadlines. Ability to communicate clearly in a
remote work environment , including documenting coding notes,
questions and decisions appropriately and clearly. Ability to read
through lengthy reports and code relevant information. Requirements
This is a full-time temporary position locat ed in Washington, DC.
Candidates must reside in the following states for the duration of
employment (DC, MD, VA). Coders have the option to work in the
office or remotely and must be available during established
business hours. FLSA Status: Non-e xempt Salary: $1 8.50 per hour
