Company DXI Construction Company, Inc. is a leading site development, earth moving, underground utilities and road building contractor that was founded in Harford County, Maryland in 1968. Basic Description: The Estimator helps drive business by preparing complete and responsive bid proposals on large and complex projects including analyzing plans and specifications to develop detailed cost estimates for materials, equipment and labor required to construct the project. This is accomplished by working closely with Operations and Project Managers during the bidding process to ensure accuracy of data used to estimate the project. Once a bid has been accepted, the Estimator will promptly work up and obtain execution of subcontracts and material purchase orders including insurance compliance. Additionally, the Estimator will lead the hand-off of information to project management to be fully educated in all strategies, opportunities and risks that were recognized in the bidding process. Responsibilities -- Ability to read and interpret specifications and bid instructions. Bid must include a comprehensive "take off" of materials included in the job, labor, buyout items, and equipment costs. Long lead items must be coordinated with purchasing and all bids must be clear and concise for tracking back all expenditures. -- Coordinate and prepare estimates using on line plans. Prepare pricing estimates on potential new projects. -- Evaluating specifications, drawings, scope documents and other bid package information to ensure that all the information needed to develop an accurate and competitive estimate and win the project is known and understood. -- Identifying and quantifying risks inherent in the project; communicating to and working with the rest of the project development team to appropriately address and mitigate the risks. -- Participating in pre-proposal site visits and meetings with potential clients; collecting information, including photographs; analyzing and evaluating all site-specific factors to ensure that they are taken into account in the development of estimates. -- Developing a thorough understanding of scopes of work provided with requests for proposals and change orders. Where scope information may be unclear or contradictory, developing questions, making inquiries and resolving these uncertainties. Researching scope items that are unfamiliar and communicating as needed to ensure that the project development team has enough understanding of the work to develop the proposal. -- Developing complete take-offs necessary to itemize quantities and types of materials and components and acquiring accurate cost information from vendors and suppliers. -- Determining man-hour, tool and construction equipment requirements along with their respective costs. -- Soliciting and evaluating proposals for required services from subcontractors and other specialty providers; aggressively following up with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure that their bids are understandable, accurate and timely. -- Developing and implementing evaluation criteria for subcontractor and bidder prequalification. -- Supporting Project Managers in the evaluation of subcontractor change order requests. -- Developing and maintaining good subcontractor and vendor relationships that will augment and support Tri-Technic's estimating and project development efforts. -- Critiquing estimating performance; evaluating estimates against actual post-project cost information; documenting and communicating lessons learned; archiving and maintaining historical estimates and data; continually improving and updating estimating data sources; driving continuous estimating performance improvement. Qualifications -- A minimum of 10 years estimating experience -- BS in Construction Management/Engineering, Accounting/Finance, Architecture or similar preferred Skills/Knowledge/Abilities -- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to estimate multiple projects at a given time -- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and resolve issues/problems -- Excellent verbal & written communication -- Strong mathematical skills -- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
