Job Description:
The Quality Inspector will be responsible for driving quality
improvement throughout the Thorlabs Imaging Systems division,
implementing quality techniques, capturing issues, solving problems
and promoting quality within the production and service
departments. Although the location of the position is in Sterling,
-Virginia, it may be required to undertake duties at other ThorLabs
locations occasionally.
Essential Job Functions - include the following, but are not
limited to:
Responsible for Quality System Maintenance.
Inspections following proper Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
(GD&T). Preferably, individual will have experience inspecting
machined parts and varying optomechanical components.
Root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for
process related concerns and failed parts.
Assisting production and engineering managers in establishing,
implementing and maintaining inspection and acceptance criteria at
the component, subassembly, and final assembly levels.
Training and collaboration with production personnel to continue
improving on existing quality awareness.
Work with Engineering to understand specifications for newly
released products, and create inspection templates for newly
released machine parts.
Create and maintain quality documentation, such as quality manuals,
procedures, and inspection templates for the Thorlabs Imaging
Systems division.
Manage suppliers' performance and conduct audits.
Preparation of vendor QA reports.
Generate and submit engineering change requests when required.
Determining disposition of quarantined and MRB items from
inventory. -
Physical Activities :
This position requires the ability to lift up to 25lbs, and to
remain on your feet for up to several hours if required.
Qualifications
Experience:
Previous experience in a similar position or manufacturing
environment preferred.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to work seamlessly with interdisciplinary teams in varying
departments consisting of engineers, machinists, and others
Basic computer knowledge such as, but not limited to, Microsoft
Office products and MRP systems.
Strong ability to work well in a group atmosphere, and comply with
high quality standards.
Experience inspecting machined parts and varying opt mechanical
components
Experience using standard measurement equipment (calipers,
micrometers, pin and thread gauges, etc.)
Strong attention to detail.
Strong ability to shift from one task to another to address
changing production priorities.
Must be able to understand written work instructions and schematics
for a wide range of products
