Job Description:
This position is responsible for the programming, setting up,
and running CNC lathes and milling machines in a fast-paced, team
environment. In addition is responsible for programming the
day-to-day operations of our CNC machining centers and CNC lathes
used to meet both production schedules and the rapid prototyping
requirements of R&D. This position will include interacting
with both manufacturing and R&D teams to ensure continuous
improvement of production and quality processes. Although the
location of this position is in Sterling, VA from the time it may
be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.
Essential Job Functions - include the following, but are not
limited to:
Ability to program complex work pieces on 4+ axis equipment.
Knowledge of CNC Lathes, Vertical and Horizontal CNC Milling
Machines (4+ axes)
Experience with Haas, Okuma -and Mazak controls.
Ability to hand-edit CNC programs (G codes/M codes)
Familiar with the operation of DNC systems.
Capable of fabricating precision tools and fixturing.
Experience machining tight tolerances and complex geometries.
Solid understanding of geometric dimensions and tolerances.
Programming experience of multi-task machines a plus.
Solid Works and or GibbsCAM experience a plus.
In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all
positions are also responsible for:
Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of
work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work related
tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies
and procedures.
Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding
standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and
assignments.
The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to
this position.
Physical Activities:
Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or
perform repetitious work at times. Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force
occasionally. While performing the duties, the employee is
regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Some employees may
come into contact with potentially harmful chemicals or fumes, but
ventilation systems normally minimize any harmful effects, and the
work areas may be noisy at times.
Qualifications
Experience:
Minimum 3 years' machine shop environment
Experienced with CNC programming
Experience in machining close tolerance components
Education:
Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Technical training specific to CNC programming
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge programming for, and performing setups on, vertical and
horizontal CNC machines, CNC lathes, and manual milling/turning
machines.
Capable of inspecting and troubleshooting his/her own work.
Able to work independently or with a team in an efficient
manner.
Strong sense of ownership and work ethic.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong computer skills are a must.
