Engineer within the Tactical Space Division at Northrop Grumman
Space Systems located in Sterling, VA. This position offers the
opportunity to work on an exciting space flight program designed to
further human exploration and scientific discovery in Low Earth
Orbit. The Vehicle Manager, in conjunction with the Lead Systems
Engineer, leads a team consisting of multi-disciplinary engineering
professionals in integration and test of a production line of space
vehicles.The CRS Vehicle Manager is the single point of contact for
all aspects of a specific mission and will serve as the primary
point of contact for their NASA counterpart. While the mission team
members perform many of the tasks and activities required to
conduct the mission, the CRS Vehicle Manager is responsible for
ensuring these tasks are successfully accomplished in a timely
manner. The CRS Vehicle Manager is specifically responsible for
ensuring the completion of the following major activities: detailed
mission planning, space, cargo and launch vehicle production
coordination, cargo integration services, systems engineering,
mission-peculiar design and analysis, cargo interface definition
and compliance, launch range coordination, integrated scheduling,
launch site processing, and launch and mission operations.The CRS
Vehicle Manager will coordinate continuously with the various
site-located managers, including personnel at the remote site
project offices (Houston and Wallops), at the Northrop Grumman
production facilities (Dulles and Chandler) and at the mission
planning/operations sites (Dulles, Houston and Wallops).CRS Vehicle
Manager position includes the following responsibilities:
- Manage CRS2 vehicle production to achieve the CRS program plan
for major mission milestones, including Launch-on-Need.
- Develop, manage, and coordinate the mission, vehicle, and
launch site daily schedules
- Provide overall direction and guidance for vehicle production
from manufacturing through launch operations
- Provide guidance to planning, subcontracts, and manufacturing
leads on vehicle need dates
- Develop vehicle test plans, support and provide vehicle
direction for FRB/MRBs, lead coordination of CRS team (e.g.:
I&T, cargo, engineering) including Launch Vehicle partners
(e.g.: Antares)
- Act as lead representative for the CRS program at the launch
site
- Interface and coordinate with customer, LV partners, range,
public relations
- Plan for, coordinate, and manage the contract deliverables for
the vehicle including major mission reviews
- Ensure DRD's delivered on time as required per contract
- Conduct and support standard internal and external reviews
- Support closure of vehicle management requirements and
verifications
- Develop one or more processes, plans, or tools to improve
vehicle management and/or production for future vehicles
- Support mentoring/training of production/system
engineers#NovaspaceBasic Qualifications:
- Systems Engineer 3 - Bachelor's Degree in STEM - Science,
Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 5+ years of
experience, Master's Degree and 3+ years of experience; or a
PhD.
- Systems Engineer 4 - Bachelor's Degree in STEM - Science,
Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 9+ years of
experience, Master's Degree and 7+ years of experience; or a PhD
and 4+ years of experience.
- Detailed understanding of spacecraft integration & test, launch
and mission operations
- Cost Account management
- Demonstrated strength developing, tracking, and working to a
detailed integrated schedule
- Considered subject matter expert in at least one applicable
spacecraft discipline
- Ability to lead failure review boards and drive complex issues
to closure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Project, Microsoft
SharePoint, etc.Preferred Qualifications:
- Motivated and demonstrated leader
- Excellent presentation skills with ability to lead critical
program milestone reviews while presenting to senior leadership and
external customer
- Flexibility to react to frequently changing priorities and
issues
- Proficiency in Atlassian Agile methodology and JIRA Salary
Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD -
$188,600 USD Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in
addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward
individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in
company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions
may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop
