Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.The Mechanical Engineering group is hiring for a Sr. Principal Engineer Aeronautical in our Mechanical Engineering team within the Launch Vehicles Business Unit at our Sterling, VA facility.Essential Functions:Work within the Northrop Grumman Design group and will be responsible for creating drawing/design packages with proper content and to ensuring compliance with applicable industry and military standardsReview designs for fit, function, manufacturability, economy of fabrication, and verifying completed work, checking dimensions, materials and quantities to be usedReview of tolerance analysis, hardware selection and fitment on assembly printsCalled upon to resolve interpretation issues on drawingsVerifying 3D models submitted to manufacturing utilizing Siemens NX 1946 managed with TeamcenterResponsibility will further include liaison with various engineering disciplines, Manufacturing, and QualitySome vendor liaison will be required as wellAs requested, may supervise and direct the activities of staff.Modeling fully defined components and assemblies efficiently using Siemens NX 1946 managed with Teamcenter, and create/revise parametric drawings in conformance with ASME modeling and drawing standardsKnowledge of Word, Excel, Windows and NX 1946 as required.Good communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to work quickly and accurately while under schedule pressure and exhibit a large degree of patience.Strong time management and organizational skills.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related engineering experienceAbility to obtain DoD Secret security clearanceMust be experienced with geometric dimensioning and tolerancingMust be experienced with weld design per AWS D17.1 and D1.1Must have knowledge of standard manufacturing processes including CNC Mill and Lathe operationsMust be experienced with Siemens NX 1946 and TeamcenterAbility to work independently as well as in a team environmentPreferred Qualifications:Master's or PhD in STEMActive DOD Secret Security clearance, or higherASME Y14.5-2009ASM GDTP CertificationAWS CWI certificationExperience working with DoD programsWorking knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and Mil-Standard 100Salary Range: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USDEmployees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
